We are seeking an inspirational and driven educator to join us as a temporary Second in Department (English) to cover a period of maternity leave.
In this vital role, you will work collaboratively with the Head of Department to co-lead the English subject area, driving outstanding outcomes for our students. You will assist in shaping the curriculum, monitoring attainment, promoting a vision for developing literacy across the academy, and ensuring that learning and teaching are consistently of the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership & Development
- Co-Lead the Subject Area:Support the Head of Department in implementing a long-term vision and developing English both within the Communication Learning Centre and across the academy.
- Curriculum & Innovation:Monitor and evaluate the curriculum, planning engaging, relevant schemes of learning for Key Stages 3 and 4 while developing innovative approaches utilizing ICT.
- Track & Improve Performance:Monitor student performance across your responsibility area, ensuring regular marking and assessment, and developing effective intervention strategies to achieve outstanding results.
- Staff Support:Help ensure teachers in the department consistently deliver good or better lessons. Support professional development through training, mentoring, and coaching.
Teaching & Student Care
- Outstanding Practice:Teach assigned students according to their educational needs, setting and marking work that inspires exceptional progress.
- Student Well-being:Promote the progress, health, safety, and general well-being of individual students, responding carefully to the Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs.
- Behavior Management:Consistently apply the academy's behavior and discipline policies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
- Progress Tracking & Communication:Complete tracking systems, prepare students for public examinations, and communicate regularly with parents regarding student achievement.

You should possess strong leadership qualities, excellent administrative skills, and the capability to manage and support colleagues effectively. A thorough understanding of data protection regulations (GDPR) and an unwavering commitment to the highest standards of professionalism are essential
