What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for Academic Tutors in Maths, English and Science to support students in 1:1, small group and whole class settings. Working two to three days a week, you will play a key role in helping students achieve their full potential.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • Relevant qualifications that help demonstrate evidence at A Level or undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in English, Maths or Science
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy skills

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience working with children of relevant age
  • Experience of working with students with additional needs
  • Experience of delivering literacy and reading/writing recovery programmes

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering tailored programmes of study to small groups and 1:1 sessions
  • Ensuring students meet their progress and examination targets
  • Liaising with parents and reporting weekly to the Head of Subject
  • Maintaining accurate progress records and providing clear feedback
  • Using behaviour strategies to create a positive learning environment
  • Supporting students in whole class settings by assisting teachers, preparing resources and engaging learners
  • Acting as reader or scribe when required

Harris Invictus Academy Croydon was rated ‘outstanding’ in every category following its first ever Ofsted inspection in October 2016: only the seventh secondary free school in London to achieve this. The academy opened with its first cohort in September 2014 and moved into a state-of-the-art, new building in September 2017.
