The Role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Academy IT Lead to join our Trust-wide IT Services team. You will be the on-site IT lead at Heworth Grange School, responsible for the day-to-day management of IT systems and services, while working closely with a central team of 13 IT professionals across the Trust.

This is a highly visible role, requiring excellent technical knowledge, strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with staff and students.

Occasional travel to other Trust schools may be required.

Key Responsibilities

IT Leadership & Support

  • Lead all aspects of IT provision on site
  • Provide proactive and reactive technical support to staff and students
  • Manage and resolve helpdesk tickets in line with agreed SLAs
  • Represent Trust IT Services within the school and implement Trust-wide IT policies

Hardware, Software & Infrastructure

  • Install, configure and maintain PCs, laptops, tablets, servers and peripherals
  • Maintain VoIP systems, printers, projectors and interactive boards
  • Ensure antivirus protection, updates and patches are applied in line with policy
  • Support and maintain network infrastructure, including basic VLAN changes
  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, assets and infrastructure

Relationships & Communication

  • Build strong relationships with SLT, school staff and students
  • Act as the key point of contact between school and central IT teams
  • Liaise with external suppliers and service providers
  • Deliver staff training and guidance on IT systems where required

Security, Compliance & Development

  • Implement cyber security and data protection practices
  • Support GDPR compliance and secure data handling
  • Lead or contribute to school-based and Trust-wide IT projects
  • Take ownership of a specialist system or process following training
  • Engage in ongoing CPD and professional development

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • ICT qualifications or equivalent experience at Level 3 or above
  • Strong experience supporting end-user devices and Windows environments
  • Experience with Office 365, server infrastructure and networking
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently and prioritise effectively
  • Flexible, proactive and solutions-focused approach

Desirable

  • Experience working within an education setting
  • Vendor or specialist IT certifications

A full UK driving licence is essential due to travel between academies.
