Achievement Support Assistant (Level 2 Teaching Assistant) job summary

The Directors of St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Academy Trust are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, inspiring, and highly motivated Achievement Support Assistant (L2 TA) to work as part of the team at St Mary's VC Academy, working 1 to 1 with a child who has complex SEN needs.

Term time only - 30 hours per week - Monday to Friday 9am - 3.30pm with 30 mins lunch break.

This post is fixed term until 31st August 2026

Their responsibilities include working closely with an individual students or to deliver tailored support that meets the pupil’s specific educational, emotional, and physical needs. They assist in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), adapt lesson materials for accessibility, and provide one-on-one attention to help the pupil to stay engaged and make progress. In collaboration with class teachers, SENCO, and external specialists, they monitor pupil development, manage behaviour sensitively, and create a safe, nurturing atmosphere that encourages independence and confidence. This role requires patience, empathy, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting every child’s right to a meaningful education.

Your role focuses around supporting Teachers, which in turn elevates the support delivered to pupils. The role will also involve leading small group interventions under the direction of the class teacher. Experience of working in a school is essential. Experience of SEND would be an advantage but not essential, but most importantly, you will have the right attitude towards teaching and learning.
