JOB TITLE: Advanced Learning Support Assistant

CONTRACT: Fixed Term until 31.8.2026

SALARY/GRADE: £13.39 per hour

HOURS: 30 hours per week, Mon - Fri, Term time only

RESPONSIBLE TO: Lead Advanced Learning Support Assistant

PURPOSE OF JOB:

To regularly cover lessons across the year group and assist teachers in planning, delivery, assessment, delivering interventions, behaviour management and emotional support of pupils.

DUTIES:

A Supporting the Pupils

  • To aid the children to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and independently by:
    • Clarifying and explaining instructions
    • Ensuring children are able to access the activities within the lesson
    • Motivating and encouraging children as required
    • Supporting children with challenging behaviour where necessary
    • To establish supportive relationships with children and engage with their parents.
    • To be responsible for the planning, delivery and assessment of interventions.
    • B Supporting the Teachers

    • To support the teaching team by making contributions in planning.
    • To administer appropriate assessments and to record progress made by the children.
    • To participate in the evaluation of planned activities and assessments.
    • To provide regular feedback about the children to the teacher through observations.
    • To attend progress meetings and feedback the progress made by individual children.
    • C Supporting the School

    • To attend relevant in-service training
    • To be aware of school policies and procedures
    • Any other tasks as directed by your Line Manager to support the department you are working in. e.g. Christmas Production, School trips, new intake meeting etc
    • D Covering Lessons

    • To lead lessons from planning
    • To support Teachers in evaluating and amending planning
    • To have a clear understanding of the intent and implementation of the Curriculum
    • To provide feedback to pupils on their learning in lessons

    St. Bede is a popular three-form entry Academy with 630 pupils on roll, serving a wide community with pupils from different faiths. The present School was formed in September 1992 through the amalgamation of a well-established Infant and Junior School. It became an Academy on 1st July 2011 and is now part of a Multi-Academy Trust, along with our sister school Tonge Moor Primary Academy.

We have an urban site with no grounds or playing fields, although the school has access to the adjacent council playing fields which we are currently in talks with the council about purchasing for our children. We have two playgrounds, a Reception outdoor area, a Nursery outdoor area, a Year 1 outdoor area and an allotment.

    Our bespoke curriculum ensures that all children are provided with a broad, balanced curriculum taking into account their interests, needs and talents. Our curriculum is sequential from the EYFS to Y6 and is successfully designed to be ambitious and meet the needs of all pupils. We are proud to have specialist teachers in Music, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing and Art who teach from EYFS to Year 6.
