What skills and experience we're looking for

This is a role working with our0-2 year olds as we expand our places. An exciting role working with the youngest children in school in our new and nurturing 0-2 provision.

We are in the early days of a brand-new venture for Childhaven, and we are expanding our 0-2 capacity due to popular demand!

If you are someone who is passionate about child led routines and learning and promoting the highest standards of nurture for our youngest children we would like to hear from you. We have a new and highly motivated team and we are developing our setting with a nurturing and child led ethos where all children have an individual routine to their day!

We welcome applications from experienced baby room practitioners and those with less experience but who are curious to work out how best to support our very youngest children. We have a friendly and supportive team here waiting to welcome you to our school.

Key duties:

  • Support pupils one‑to‑one or in small groups, helping them learn, grow and feel confident.
  • Lead engaging group activities that spark curiosity and build early learning skills.
  • Encourage independence, positive behaviour and resilience in every child.
  • Build warm, supportive relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Keep learning records up to date and contribute to assessing children’s progress.
  • Create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported.
  • Support children’s social and emotional development, including behaviour regulation.
  • Take part in school visits and wider school activities.
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of the setting throughout the year.

Essential Qualifications / Experience:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent
  • Appropriate experience working with children in an educational / nursery setting
  • An understanding that children/Young people have differing needs and knowledge of inclusive practice

Here at Childhaven Community Nursery School we provide a vibrant, welcoming, and inspirational setting and serve the communities around the Scarborough Town. We are one of only 3 maintained nursery schools in North Yorkshire and we offer children a unique start to their education. Children aged between 2 and 4 play and learn together in our wonderful Victorian building and garden.

Our learning environment and education provision that is offered to our 95 children on roll is second to none and our teaching assistants play an important part in school life. Our team ethos helps make our school welcoming, calm and purposeful.
