Our Opportunity

We are looking for someone passionate about making a difference. Due to an increase in support required for our pupils with additional needs we are looking for a new ATA!

You will work closely with our pupils, getting to know their needs and how to adapt your learning practice to help them shine. This role is a mix of working with small groups and individuals with SEND needs. You will also have 10% PPA time for planning and preparing engaging activities for our pupils. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference.

We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for working with very young children, and experience working with children who have additional needs. We are working hard to develop our nurture provision for some of our most vulnerable children and we are looking to strengthen our team who work flexibly with all children who are on roll. This post is particularly focused on working intensively with children who require support with communication and interaction.

Key duties:

  • Engage with children to develop sustained, shared thinking, and promote the characteristics of effective learning, as defined in the EYFS
  • Plan learning activities under the direction of class teacher
  • Prepare and maintain our learning environment
  • Carry out routine tasks to support the work of teacher, and HLTAs
  • Provide intensive support to some of our children with additional needs

You will:

  • Be able to support in the delivery of high-quality learning experiences for all children, including those with SEND
  • Have high expectations of learning and behaviour and inspire and motivate our children
  • Be supportive, nurturing and understanding with high expectations
  • Be one of our play people
  • Seek to make learning exciting and a positive experience
  • Work well as part of a large team
  • Demonstrate good communication skills both orally and written

Essential Qualifications:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent

Here at Childhaven Community Nursery School we provide a vibrant, welcoming, and inspirational setting and serve the communities around the Scarborough Town. We are one of only 3 maintained nursery schools in North Yorkshire and we offer children a unique start to their education. Children aged between 2 and 4 play and learn together in our wonderful Victorian building and garden.

Our learning environment and education provision that is offered to our 95 children on roll is second to none and our teaching assistants play an important part in school life. Our team ethos helps make our school welcoming, calm and purposeful.
