What skills and experience we're looking for

Waingels is seeking to appoint an experienced colleague with a genuine passion for transforming the lives of disengaged, at-risk and vulnerable learners.

We are in the process of setting up our own Alternative Provision and Curriculum called “Succeed” with the aim of raising the educational support, experience and access to an appropriate curriculum for a small group of our students from Years 7 – 11. We are seeking a colleague to setup and run this provision.

As the Alternative Provision and Curriculum Coordinator you will play a vital role in shaping the future of our students and their next steps. Helping to equip them with valuable key skills through the organisation of and delivery of a skills-based curriculum in a designated on-site space. You will work closely with students, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to help them achieve academically and personally.

Our school approach is to be as inclusive as possible. This is because we believe that every student should feel success and have the opportunity to develop the relevant skills and knowledge to be able to be successful in their next steps.

As the Alternative Provision and Curriculum Coordinator you will plan and deliver activities/projects (supported by other professionals/teachers and support staff) to either individuals or groups of students to ensure their safety, social, emotional and academic progress. Experience of working with students with behaviour, social and emotional needs is essential, whether in or outside of education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining meaningful and positive connections with some of our hardest to reach students
  • Fostering a positive and motivating learning environment/space
  • Acting as a role model and mentor for personal development
  • Helping students to build confidence and reach their full potential

What the school offers its staff

If successful in the role, you will:

  • Work closely alongside teachers and other support staff to design and deliver an appropriate curriculum i.e. in school and off-site projects to engage students, for them to learn key life skills and to achieve success
  • Plan, organise and attend off-site trips for students to enhance their learning experience and the real-life projects that are created
  • Plan and organise guest speakers and external mentoring
  • Lead individual and small group sessions with students to deliver on the projects which could range from cooking, gardening and building as examples
  • Liaise with key staff including Heads of Year and the Senior Leadership Team to plan and coordinate suitable timetables for our most vulnerable students
  • Liaise with professionals in and outside of school to leverage the pastoral and/or academic support required for students
  • Manage the “Succeed Centre” space to ensure it is engaging and purposeful for students– holding high expectations for student behaviour in a nurturing and calm environment

The appropriate candidate will be supported by a in-class assistant such as a teaching assistant. Teachers from across the school may also be timetabled to deliver/help with specific projects accordingly.
