We have a vacancy for an experienced HLTA to support the students who work in our internal alternative provision Thrive area. Reporting to our Internal Alternative Provision Lead/ Vice Principal, we are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced HLTA to join our high performing and dedicated team. Our Thrive area supports student in all years who are struggling to access mainstream learning for a multitude of reasons. Hence, you will already have experience and enjoy both the challenge and reward of working with young people with barriers to learning. This role is about supporting the teacher to maximise the potential of disaffect and vulnerable young people. You will support students to ensure they can still access their curriculum learning and help in the preparation of students for GCSE examinations. At times, you will have sole responsibility for groups of learners, supervising their engagement and completion of work. You will be joining a great team with a proven track record of delivering excellent results.

Contract: Permanent contract, Full-time 40.75 hours per week
Working hours: Monday – Thursday 8.15am – 4.30pm and Friday 8.15am – 3.30pm

The person we are looking for should have:
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
Experience of working with young people with barriers to learning
Experience of working with young people at risk of exclusion
Experience of working in a school environment
Good numeracy, literacy and communication skills
Level 2 (GCSE) minimum qualification in English, Mathematics + 3 other qualifications at grade C or higher
Desirable:
Experience working in an alternative provision space
Familiarity with GCSE examination specifications
Good knowledge of ICT to support learning
Knowledge and understanding
Essential:
High standard of literacy and numeracy
Be able to understand and interpret reports/ data
Be skilled at emotional regulation and meeting young people’s emotional needs
Ability to communicate information clearly and coherently; ability to listen effectively
Understand and support the importance of physical and emotional wellbeing
Communicate and build positive relationships/ rapport with young people, their families and carers and other professionals who support the young people
Understand and implement the college’s behaviour management & anti-bullying policy
Ability to understand and support children with developmental difficulty or disability
Ability to work effectively and positively with a range of staff/ other professionals

Job description
Duties of role will include:
- To manage the internal alternative provision area effectively so as to ensure an effective learning environment for targeted students.
- To establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- To assist in assessing, developing and delivering learning in line with the varying personal and social needs of the students who may access the internal alternative provision area.
- To liaise with curriculum leaders/ staff to ensure students who are accessing the internal alternative provision centre can continue with their learning and access high quality teaching.
- To support the induction of students into the internal alternative provision centre, so to encourage learning, good behaviour and success.
- To liaise with parents/ carer, arranging interviews/reviews as appropriate and providing regular feedback to parents/carers on targeted students.
- To liaise with relevant external agencies for key students, including external alternative provision packages
- To support the tracking and monitoring progress and academic achievement during the students’ time in the internal alternative provision centre.
- To support students’ reintegration back into mainstream lessons, at the appropriate time, and maintain contact and support with individual students.
- To support with exam access arrangements.
- To have a positive and significant impact on targeted students.
- To promote self-esteem and independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance.
- To liaise closely with the school’s Pastoral and Inclusion Teams regarding all students who may be accessing the provision, including supporting and contribution to multi –agency working for specific students.
- To participate in the school’s quality assurance process.
- To set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and maintain a good standard of discipline through well focused teaching, fostering positive relationships and implementing the school’s Behaviour Policy.
- All staff have a responsibility to ensure that the College’s Safeguarding Policy is adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with the policy.
