We are delighted to offer the role of Apprentice Teacher of Computing at Hampton Gardens. The successful candidate will be fully supported in working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through a local accredited training provider. You will earn a salary while training and gain valuable, hands‑on classroom experience in Computing from day one.

This is a fixed‑term role for the duration of the training programme and includes release time to complete your studies, a structured training programme and tailored mentoring and coaching from experienced colleagues.

The apprenticeship is fully funded through the Apprenticeship Levy, meaning there are no training fees for the successful candidate.

Why an Apprenticeship in Computing?

Computing is a fast‑moving, applied subject, and an apprenticeship route allows you to develop your teaching practice while working with real pupils, technologies and curricula from day one. You will earn a salary while training, gain hands‑on experience across Key Stages 3-5 and work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through a structured, fully funded programme with dedicated mentoring and support within our established Computing department.

Many of our apprentices go on to secure permanent roles within the Trust following successful completion of their training.

The Role

As an Apprentice Teacher, you will:

  • Teach across a range of ages and abilities, developing your classroom practice as your training progress.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that bring Computing to life
  • Contribute to departmental planning, assessment and enrichment activities.
  • Receive high-quality training, coaching and professional development to support your journey towards QTS.

This is a full‑time role, with dedicated time built in for training, study and professional development.

About the Computing Department

The Computing Department is well-established, innovative and committed to ensuring students of all abilities enjoy the subject while being stretched and challenged.

We deliver a broad and engaging Key Stage 3 curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum and prepares students for both Computer Science and IT at Key Stages 4 and 5.

  • At Key Stage 3, students are introduced to block‑based and high‑level programming languages, Excel spreadsheets, E‑Safety, Cryptography, Algorithms, HTML, Vector Drawing and Data Representation.
  • At Key Stage 4, students can study OCR GCSE Computer Science (J277) and/or BTEC Tech Awards Digital Information Technology.
  • At Key Stage 5, students can study OCR A‑Level Computer Science (H446) and/or OCR Cambridge Advanced National in Cyber Security Extended Certificate (H137).

Hampton Gardens is an 11-19 free school which opened in September 2017 to an initial intake of 180 Year 7 students. When full, the school will accommodate 1200 students in years 7-11 and 300 students in Sixth Form.

Hampton Gardens is part of the Hampton Academies Trust who also run the highly successful and popular Hampton College all-through school, Hampton Lakes Primary School and Dogsthorpe Infant School. HAT schools have very close links and some shared staff.
