Summary of the apprenticeship
Eckington CE First School have an exciting opportunity to
recruit an apprentice teaching assistant (level 3).
This role will encompass all parts of school life and will include some
lunchtime and wrap around care duties. You will have the opportunity to work
with a range of age groups across the school (nursery – year 5).

Working week:
Typical working week will be during normal school hours Monday 8.45am to Friday 3.15pm, term time only. Breakfast club 8am – 8.45am as required. Afterschool provision as required from 3.15pm to 5.30pm. Timetable to be negotiated with successful candidate
o Total hours per week: 30.00 (5 days)
o 18 months expected duration
- Work with class teachers in the planning of work programmes for individuals and groups of children to raise the learning and attainment of pupils.
- Promote pupils’ independence, behaviour, self-esteem, and social inclusion through praise and encouragement.
- Provide supervised cover - Work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff with individuals/groups/classes, in or out of the classroom, maintaining good order (work pre-set by the teacher).
- Support the ethos of the school, follow school policies and the staff code of conduct.
- Assist with the support of group activities within and away from the classroom, i.e.P.E., swimming, educational visits.
- Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities.
- Promote, support, and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities.
- Contribute to effective assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording, and reporting of pupil performance and observations to the teacher
- Read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, if available.
- Prepare the classroom for lessons; resources for lessons and activities.
- Communicate effectively and develop professional relationships with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers.
- Look after children who are upset or have had accidents.
- Help keep your own knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date by reflecting on your own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness.
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school’s WCF Safeguarding and Child protection, Behaviour Anti-Bullying and exclusion policy and Online Safety Policy.
- Hold the relevant qualifications - 5 GCSE (or equivalent) grade C/4 or above to include Maths and English.
- Ensure the welfare and safety of all children within school grounds or buildings during lunch times & wrap around
- To undertake ancillary duties as necessary (i.e. setting up and clearing away tables, cleaning tables and dining area, setting up activities for wrap around).
- To report any concerns or issues that arise to the Headteacher/Class Teacher as appropriate
Successful candidates will also undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job
You will be working towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification.
You may also need to work towards Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English if not achieved prior.
