Art & Design Technician - part time job summary

An excellent opportunity to work as a part of our thriving and successful Art & Design Department, offering Art & Design up to A Level. The department has excellent facilities, including a dark room, a kiln room and a separate sixth form.

Contract

  • Required for 5 January 2026, with handover in advance
  • 15 hours per week (over 4 days), term time only (38 weeks)
  • Grade H4, Actual Salary £9,164 per annum

Job Purpose:

  • To assist Art & Design teaching staff in providing pupils with a relevant, safe and effective Art & Design education, whilst ensuring the highest levels of achievement.
  • To assist teaching staff in ensuring all pupils are able to access a wide range of materials and processes as part of their Art & Design provision.
  • To assist teaching staff in the promoting and raising the profile of Art & Design within and outside the school.
  • To support the Head of Department in running of the department, and maintaining inventories and stock levels within the annual budget.

Principle responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of machinery and equipment in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Arrange for non-scheduled repairs/maintenance.
  • Ensure all statutory inspections are completed and implement remedial work.
  • Assist teaching staff in maintaining Health and Safety documentation.
  • Ensure that all equipment and flammables are locked and secure when not in use.
  • Monitor, maintain and order material stocks and consumables.
  • Maintain storage areas in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Prepare materials and equipment prior to lessons and assist with clearing away.
  • Assist teachers with lessons and provide technical support where required.
  • Design and manufacture templates required for practical projects.
  • Be proficient in using the department camera.
  • Oversee organisation, and safe storage of exam work student work.
  • Administration for exam board moderation.
  • To assist in setting up and taking down the Art & Design GCSE/A Level exhibitions.

Essential requirements:

  • Practical art skills in one or more areas.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
  • Digital literacy with financial oversight capabilities.
  • Confident supporting students in an academically focused environment.
  • Abillity to work independently with exceptional time management.
  • Understanding the health & safety concepts within an art studio.

Desirable:

  • Expertise in photography, ceramics, digital media or printmaking.
  • Experience preparing displays or exhibitions.
  • First aid training.
  • Mini bus driving license.
