This is an exciting opportunity to join a values-driven Trust where every role contributes directly to improving outcomes for children and young people.
As Assistant Caretaker, you will support the existing site team in ensuring that the Academy environment is safe, secure, clean and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors. You will play a key role in the day-to-day operational running of the site, including opening and closing the premises, carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs, supporting health and safety checks, and preparing spaces for lessons, events and activities. The role requires a proactive approach with flexibility to respond to the changing needs of a busy school environment whilst maintaining high standards at all times.
We are seeking a reliable and motivated individual who takes pride in their work and demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility for the environment they help maintain. The successful candidate will have practical skills and a ‘can-do’ attitude, with experience in general maintenance or site work being desirable but not essential. You will understand the importance of health, safety and safeguarding in a school setting, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and show a commitment to creating a positive, safe and welcoming environment for the whole school community.
The working hours (37 per week) for this post will be directed by the Estates Manager using a site team schedule; however, the core working hours for this post will remain within the hours of 6.00am and 6.30pm.
The successful candidate will:
- Undertake or arrange repairs/maintenance as instructed by the Estates Manager
- Assist in the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the school building and grounds
- Support with opening and locking the school premises
- Monitor and replenish stock levels of cleaning and maintenance supplies
- Ensure the site is clean, safe and hazard free for pupils and staff, reporting any issues to the Estates Manager
- Be a team player with a practical, hands-on approach
We can offer:
- A hard-working Leadership team dedicated to the success of our students
- An inclusive approach to learning
- High-quality Continuous Professional Development opportunities
- Opportunities for further development and training
- A healthy work-life balance
- Free access to an Employee Assistance Programme
- Free, on-site parking
- Excellent employer pension contribution scheme.
