We work at pace and embrace innovative teaching and pastoral practice based on consultation with pupils, parents, staff and governors and by using internal and external research.

Our Post 16 provision is made up of 130 to 160 pupils who enjoy their own purpose designed Sixth Form area, The Hub and private dedicated study space. It is a friendly and welcoming community where pupils thrive as individuals by virtue of the Post 16 team nurturing their chosen passions. Alongside the Director of Post 16 and in partnership with our collaborative provision at Maltby Academy, you would run this ‘school within a school’ and be an ambassador for this section within our School community and to our external stakeholders.

The Assistant Director of Post 16 will have wide-ranging responsibilities, though their main focus will be ensuring that all our sixth form students are happy, contribute positively to life at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy and are supported to reach the best possible character development, examination results and higher education outcomes. The Assistant Director of Post 16 will take the lead in ensuring the highest standards of pastoral care, in developing systems to encourage pupil voice and pupil leadership, and in upholding high standards of pupil conduct.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have the ability and desire to deliver exceptional teaching and learning.
  • be a dynamic practitioner with a relentless desire to drive up educational standards and deliver exceptional outcomes for all cohorts of pupils.
  • have excellent subject knowledge and be able to teach effectively across the age and ability ranges.
  • have a track record of delivering clear impact with their own classes.
  • be an aspiring, ambitious leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • have a proven track record of raising and maintaining standards and securing high quality provision.
  • be an advocate of partnership working and community engagement.
  • be a team player and work closely with other leaders and professionals to develop and implement effective strategies and processes of departmental improvement.
  • have a true growth mindset, exceptional work ethic and a sense of humour.
  • be committed to the Sir Thomas Wharton Academy vision.
  • have the knowledge and experience of the context in which Sir Thomas Wharton Academy operates.
