Assistant Head - Inclusion Lead/SENCO job summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Head who can be our Inclusion/SEND Lead and with that be an important part of our leadership team from September’25. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing our inclusion strategy, supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and ensuring that all pupils have access to high-quality education.
As Assistant Head, you will
Work alongside the Head of School and other members of the leadership team to drive the strategic direction of the school.
Promote and support the school ethos and values.
Be able to fulfil statutory duties regarding safeguarding pupils and health and safety including role of DSL (see below).
Work alongside the Head of School and leadership team to monitor Teaching and Learning.
Work alongside the Head of School and Leadership team to ensure the school curriculum meets the needs of pupils and is achieving its aims.
Support the development and delivery of CPD in line with the school’s development plan.
Work alongside the Head of School and leadership team to promote the progress of all pupils.
Although this is a non-classed based role you will still be an excellent classroom practitioner who can support others to enhance provision across the school.
Be creative and innovative.
Be a positive, calm and friendly presence in the school who communicates effectively with all stakeholders.
Have experience of effective subject and phase leadership which gives you the experience to support and guide others.
Have high expectations in all areas of school life.
Be able to manage others through a balance of support and challenge to secure best practice.
As our Inclusion lead and SENCO, you will:
- Lead and manage the provision for pupils with special educational needs.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to support pupils with SEND.
- Coordinate with teachers, parents/carers and external agencies to create and maintain individualised pupil profiles.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of pupils with SEN, ensuring that support is effective.
- Provide training and support to staff on SEND best practices.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and maintain up-to-date records.
- Oversee and manage our Inclusion team (Nest provision, ELSA, HSLW)
- Signpost parents and carers to support and guidance.
- Successfully apply for additional funding including EHCP’s for those eligible.
- Hold annual reviews for pupils with EHCP’s.
Further details about the roleWe are looking for an experienced SENDCo to join our team who has a good understanding of working with colleagues to support SEN children in order for them to achieve their best.
The role combines SENDCo with an Assistant Head role which reflects the priority that we give to SEND across the school whilst also strengthening our leadership team. We are looking for an individual who is fully supportive of our vision and values.
Someone who will demonstrate that they can offer our school high levels of commitment and skill to enhance the experiences and enable our ambitious learners to meet their full potential across the curriculum.
