Background Information

Shavington Academy has been a Multi Academy Trust since 1st September 2015 for pupils aged 11-16, serving the villages and conurbation to the South of Crewe. Our catchment includes Wistaston Church Lane, The Berkeley, Shavington, Weston and Wybunbury Delves Primary Schools, though we draw pupils from across Crewe and South Cheshire. Our current school population is 912 pupils; we have just completed a process of significant expansion, which will see our PAN increase to 1050 with a year group intake of 210 pupils. The Academy’s growing reputation and a number of housing developments locally have attributed to the growth of the Academy.

The post is advertised for a September 2025 start, applicants must be able to teach Design and Technology to both KS3 and KS4. • Assist the Curriculum Leader in managing teaching, achievement, behaviour and leadership in Design and Technology through the Academy’s systems

• To actively monitor and respond to curriculum development and initiatives in Design and Technology at national, regional and local levels • To assist the Curriculum Leader in initiating regular reviews of Design and Technology specifications and schemes available, in discussion AHT Line Management.

• To identify appropriate learning pathways for all pupils and to manage the communications process associated with this relating to pupils and parents

• To work closely with the Curriculum Leader to monitor pupil progress, playing an active part in improving teaching and learning to secure whole school achievement, in accordance with whole Academy decisions

• To assist the Curriculum Leader in providing the Governing Body with relevant information relating to the areas of school life pertaining to this post

• To ensure that the work of the Academy is celebrated locally, nationally and internationally. To contribute to the Academy’s liaison and marketing activities, e.g. the collection of material for press releases and for the Academy’s monthly newsletter

• Make an active contribution to self-evaluation processes across the Academy

• To support the Curriculum Leader in managing a coherent and effective assessment system in Design and Technology, monitoring and reviewing practice as appropriate, so that it informs action support and has impact

• Take a key role in Raising Attainment Plan meetings to ensure accurate data and relevant intervention impact on achievement

• To ensure that teachers of Design and Technology are informed and supported in relevant systems, procedures, policies, etc. and responsibilities are delegated appropriately

• To assist in the Leadership, management and delegation of a program of extra-curricular activities and learning outside the classroom that includes all areas of Design and Technology Person Specification Qualifications

• An honours degree in a Design and Technology discipline

• Evidence of professional development relevant to the role

• Evidence of effective professional relationships with parents and pupils

• A track record of success demonstrated through pupil progress Experience

• At least four years’ experience as a classroom teacher in a mainstream secondary school

• Experience of designing and developing resources to support learning

• Experience of working with other teachers and supporting professionals to extend their understanding of educational issues
