What skills and experience we're looking for
Cove School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated professional to fill the role of Assistant Head of Year, who will play a pivotal role in promoting the school's values of care, character, and academic excellence. The successful candidate will contribute to the positive and inclusive learning environment at Cove School, with a focus on student welfare, attendance, punctuality, and behaviour management.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Student Welfare:
- Take a proactive role in the welfare and pastoral care of students within the assigned year group.
- Act as the 'cheerleader' for the year group, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
- Support the Form Tutors and the rest of the Year team to provide outstanding pastoral support for all students.
2) Attendance:
- Support the Head of Year and Attendance Officer in improving pupil attendance, with a specific focus on students whose attendance is between 90-95%.
- Liaise with the Attendance Officer to track attendance, identify patterns, and address any trends affecting attendance.
3) Punctuality:
- Promote high standards of punctuality to school and lessons within the year group.
- Collaborate with the Attendance Officer to address issues related to persistent lateness.
4) Student Ownership:
- Be a positive role model for students and staff in the year group, living and modelling the school values of care, character and academic excellence.
- Promote excellent standards of behaviour and character across the year group.
5) Behaviour:
- Support the Head of Year in low-level behaviour concerns within the year group and take appropriate action.
- Monitor selected students and liaise with parents where suitable, including through parent meetings.
- Promote outstanding behaviour across the years group through proactive measures.
Person Specification:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, student welfare, and behaviour management.
- Knowledge of attendance monitoring strategies and punctuality promotion.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- A commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equality within the school community.
