Assistant Headteacher - Assessment & Progress job summary

Your Role:


As the Assistant Headteacher - Assessment and Progress, you will

  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school’s assessment framework, ensuring rigorous, effective, and meaningful evaluation of pupil progress.
  • Work closely with teachers and curriculum leaders to integrate assessment into daily teaching and learning practices.
  • Analyse pupil progress data to identify trends, inform interventions, and support year-on-year improvements in attainment.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development for staff on effective assessment, data interpretation, and evidence based strategies to improve learning outcomes.
  • Contribute strategically to the School Improvement Plan, self evaluation processes, and reporting to governors and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a visible and inspirational leader across the school, promoting a culture where assessment is used to support and challenge every learner.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistency and quality across curriculum delivery and assessment practices.
  • Support the Head of School in the day to day running of the school.

What We Are Looking For:

The successful candidate will be:

  • A qualified teacher with experience in primary education across multiple key stages.
  • An experienced leader in assessment and data driven teaching, with a proven track record of improving pupil outcomes (ideally with experience of Insight and Pixl however training can be given).

  • Passionate about teaching and learning, and committed to closing attainment gaps while fostering high standards for all children.

  • An approachable and inspiring communicator, capable of building strong relationships with staff, pupils, governors, and parents.

  • Able to model best practice, deliver effective CPD, and drive strategic initiatives across the school.
  • Committed to promoting and upholding our inclusive, collaborative, and aspirational school culture.
