Assistant Headteacher – Behaviour and SEND job summary
The Directors of St John the Baptist Catholic Multi-Academy Trust are seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join the senior leadership team of Sacred Heart, with a strategic focus on behaviour and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a pivotal role in our journey of rapid improvement, offering the opportunity to shape a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and support for every child.
The school and the Trust are part of the Diocese of East Anglia.
About the Role:
As Assistant Headteacher, you will:
- Lead on whole-school behaviour strategy, fostering a calm, safe, and respectful learning environment.
- Oversee SEND provision, ensuring all pupils receive the support they need to thrive.
- Work closely with the Headteacher to drive school improvement and raise standards.
- Support and develop staff in delivering inclusive, trauma-informed practice.
- Build strong relationships with families, external agencies, and the wider community.
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a proven track record of improving behaviour and outcomes for pupils with SEND.
- Brings energy, empathy, and a relentless commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Is a skilled communicator and team player, able to inspire and support colleagues.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, high-need environment and remains calm under pressure.
- Holds (or is working towards) the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or equivalent experience.
