Assistant Headteacher job summary

"Pupils are happy and feel safe at this inclusive school. They learn how to look after their physical and mental well-being. Pupils trust staff to help them sort out any worries or concerns quickly. Behaviour in lessons and around school is good. Bullying is rare and dealt with appropriately. Pupils take care of each other and form strong friendships. One pupil summed this up by saying, ‘If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." (OfSTED, 2022).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, hardworking individual to join our successful Senior Leadership Team at Emerson Valley School. We are a popular 4-form entry Junior School in the heart of Emerson Valley and we work closely with the school community at Merebrook Infant School. Together we make up Merevalley Federation.

In Merevalley Federation, we encourage our children to aspire to be independent, resilient, lifelong learners who have the skills to adapt to the changing world around them. They have respect for each other, themselves and our community. To be the best they can be as global citizens, we aim to develop socially aware individuals who understand the impact they can have on others. Our children are happy and develop a love and enthusiasm for learning, where they are challenged to their full potential. They have pride in everything they do from their relationships, to the effort they put in to achieving their goals. We strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where children’s mental health and well-being is at the heart of our Federation. To achieve our vision, everything we do is underpinned by our three key themes: Community, Pride, Aspire.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Executive Headteacher and Head of School to form our Senior Leadership Team, and work to implement our School improvement priorities. Our new Assistant Headteacher will have a part-time teaching commitment, which will be dependent of the needs of the school.

Prior experience of working as a Team or Phase Leader is essential for this role. For more information about the role and the required experience, please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification.

As a Federation we prioritise the wellbeing of all of our staff and children. All staff are entitled to one wellbeing day per academic year during term time.

Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the school prior to submitting an application. Please contact our school office to arrange visits at a mutually convenient time.

The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS check.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
