What the school offers its staff

Fairisle Junior School is on the exciting next stage of its journey. We are a high performing school where we equip children for the next phase of their education and to be outstanding future citizens – we now need to maintain our strong standards and grow further.

We are a school that prides itself on academic excellence and impeccable behaviour. We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable new Assistant Headteacher who shares our commitment to excellence in everything. We believe this is achieved through high expectations and perseverance. ‘Expect Success’ is at the heart of what we do – it means we expect high standards from all in a community of learners, where everyone strives for marginal gains at every opportunity.

We believe every child should receive the highest quality lessons, no matter the classroom they enter. We believe that all children should learn free of disruption in a respectful and truly inclusive environment, where all children benefit from high quality teaching from their teacher. Children should be supported to engage and progress through our curriculum as well as being taught positive behaviours and life skills to be the very best they can be, in the classroom, at lunchtime, in our corridors, on trips and beyond.

To this end, we are seeking someone with a strong character, values and the requisite skill set to bring about continued improvement. Whilst you will lead on specific aspects including behaviour and culture (including attendance), as well as joining our team of DSLs, you will work closely alongside our current Assistant Headteacher on other aspects of the inclusion and achievement of children from vulnerable groups. You will need to work quickly to build relationships with our children and families to communicate the very highest of expectations and ensure the work you do leads to strong outcomes.

The new Assistant Headteacher will be an integral part of our established Senior Leadership Team. You will be at the heart of building the values, learning dispositions and sense of right and wrong in our children. You will make sure the school remains a place of safety and certainty for all our children with relentless routines, clear boundaries consistently applied and staff who are skilled in the many nuances of managing behaviour.

You will be integral to our whole school development and help to drive improvement in all areas. This will mean supporting our strategic direction and participating actively in all aspects of school improvement. You will be supported by a highly collaborative SLT committed to the very best deal for our children. We will always be innovative and courageous to get the best results we can.

This role is non-class-based initially with some requirements to cover where needed.

The school is committed to practical workload reduction strategies. We believe wellbeing is everybody’s responsibility and you would need to work to achieve this in your role.

Visits to the school can be arranged by contacting the Headteacher directly – please email Robin Hayes, Headteacher (head@fjslive.net) indicating your availability. Note that during SATs week (w/c 11 th May) availability is more limited.

Completed applications should be sent directly to the Headteacher by e-mail (see above).
