Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and SENDCO job summary

The role of Assistant Headteacher will require you to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team where you will take responsibility for leading Inclusion across the school including carrying out the SENDCO role and having oversight of the DSL role.

In particular, successful applicants should have:

  • QTS and a SENCO accreditation (or willingness to gain it)
  • DSL experience
  • Proven highly successful teaching experience
  • Proven leadership experience with a deep understanding of SEND provision
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of, children and young people

You should:

  • Be driven by values and be able to articulate significant evidence of relational leadership
  • Have strong leadership skills that result in the provision of first-class inclusion for all pupils
  • Have experience of undertaking or overseeing the DSL role, ensuring robust safeguarding policies and procedures are embedded and upheld
  • Champion pupil wellbeing and ensure the highest standards of child protection
  • Be a values-led practitioner committed to educational equity
  • Be someone with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be a warm, collaborative individual who thrives in a team
  • Have the ability to influence the quality of teaching and learning
  • Have the ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Have commitment to personal and professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
