Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion job summary
Summerswood Primary School is seeking to appoint an exceptional Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion to join our Senior Leadership Team. This is an exciting new role, created to strengthen and champion inclusion at the heart of our school as we continue on our ambitious journey of improvement and growth.
Inclusion is central to who we are. We are proud of our nurturing, relational ethos and are committed to ensuring that every pupil—particularly those with SEND and additional needs—thrives both academically and personally. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and lead whole-school inclusion strategy, making a lasting difference to the lives of our pupils and families.
About the RoleAs Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, you will:
Provide strategic leadership for inclusion across the school
Lead and develop outstanding provision for pupils with SEND and vulnerable learners
Fulfil the role of SENCo, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met to a high standard
Champion high-quality, inclusive teaching and learning across all classrooms
Inspire and develop staff, fostering a culture where inclusion is everyone’s responsibility
Work closely with families, governors, and external agencies to secure the very best outcomes for pupils
You will play a key role in driving our School Improvement Plan, ensuring that inclusive practice is embedded in everything we do.
About YouWe are looking for someone who:
Has significant experience in leading SEND and inclusion within a primary setting
Is an inspirational leader, ready to motivate and support colleagues at all levels
Has a strong understanding of inclusive teaching, adaptive practice, and the SEND Code of Practice
Is highly organised and confident in managing statutory processes
Builds positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
Shares our unwavering commitment to high expectations and equity for all
This role would suit an experienced leader who is ready to take the next step, or an existing senior leader looking to further develop their impact in inclusion.
