What skills and experience we're looking for
The postholder will report directly to the Executive Headteacher who works over two schools; Tithe Barn Primary School and Freshfield Nursery School. From 2024 both Schools have had the opportunity to have informal links with the Headteacher and School Business Manager working across both sites.
The Governors of Freshfield Nursery School are seeking to appoint an inspiring Assistant Headteacher who has the ability to motivate, support and challenge all groups of learners through a creative curriculum.

We are looking for an Assistant Headteacherwho has extensive knowledge and experience of working in Early Years to join us as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with Early Years’ and Leadership experience and who has the drive, inspiration and talent to support all groups of learners in the school. You will work closely with the rest of the Early Years’ team along with being a part of a stronger whole school team. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision and commitment to ensuring the very best for the children we teach.

Responsibilities:
- Have teaching skills that lead to learners achieving well relative to their prior attainment and promote equal opportunities.
- To work with the Executive Headteacher on the use of assessment and data
- To act as the first port of call for advice and/or support on academic and pastoral matters within Early Years.
- To oversee the support staff involvement and development within the early years’ team
- To lead on assessment.
- To contribute to and be part of the school’s leadership team
Essential:
- A teaching qualification
- Evidence of further professional development
- Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience to be able to explain and demonstrate outstanding classroom practice
- Ability to develop rapport with children, parents, and colleagues
- Strong leadership qualities and skills
- Ability to implement a high-quality, age appropriate curriculum to successfully engage children and foster physical, emotional, cognitive and social development
- Effective organisational and planning skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality
We are looking for someone who:
- Has wide experience of the Early Years curriculum and is an exceptional classroom practitioner and inspiring teacher
- Has excellent knowledge and a sound understanding of the Early Years Framework
- Is a hardworking and dedicated practitioner; able to motivate and inspire children
- Is enthusiastic, resourceful and committed to ensuring the highest possible standards of achievement and personal development, supporting every child to flourish
- Is willing to contribute to the life of the school and its community
- Has a commitment to their own personal and professional development
- Works effectively in partnership with all stakeholders
- Is able to work cooperatively as part of a team
- Possesses outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Has a good sense of humour
- Has excellent time management and organisational skills
- Is creative, imaginative and energetic
- Is able to motivate others
- Is able to work collaboratively to promote and safeguard the welfare of children within the school.
