What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for someone who has:

- established a reputation in their current school for being an outstanding teacher;

- experience of turning policy into effective and successful practice;

- recent leadership experience in a significant curriculum area and/or phase (including whole school responsibility for raising standards) and is able to demonstrate the substantial impact that they have had over the last 12-18 months;

- the ability to take examples of good practice from other schools (to successfully enhance the standards, achievement and curriculum in their own school);

- a strong understanding of attachment theory, emotion coaching, nurture principles and ways to improve the standard of behaviour amongst pupils of all ages and abilities;

- skills that complement those of the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and other members of the senior leadership team;

- excellent communication skills and a drive and motivation to work in a primary school with a SEMH Provision for pupils aged 4-7 (EYFS and KS1);

- the ability to teach to a high standard in all year groups (Reception to Year 6), modelling highly effective behaviour management, classroom organisation and teaching skills.

The senior management team consists of the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher and School Business Manager. The school also has highly effective and passionate phase leaders who contribute greatly to the leadership and formulating the strategic direction of the school.

Following the pending retirement of the current post holder, the Headteacher and Governors wish to appoint an enthusiastic, hardworking and committed Assistant Headteacher who has the ability to play a lead role in:

- motivating and inspiring others to embrace change and continually striving to raise the standard of attainment in all key stages (including EYFS);

- taking the lead responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, including child protection issues, as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

- Undertake the role of the SENCO, ensuring that all pupils, including those with SEND, receive their full educational entitlement and raise their achievement;

- evaluating and adapting the curriculum offered by the school to meet the needs of our pupils;

- proactively managing staff (including taking a lead in the performance management of senior leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, midday assistants and/or office staff) and resources- including the school’s SEMH Provision

- establishing and maintaining a strong team spirit and ethos amongst all staff members;

- formulating the aims and objectives of the school (and establishing the policies through which they are achieved);

- monitoring pupils’ progress towards end of year and end of key stage expectations (and reporting these accurately to the senior leadership team, school governors and class teachers);

- taking full responsibility for the school in the absence of the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher.
