Assistant Headteacher [Pastoral] job summary

About this Role

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher [with accountability for Pastoral leadership] at Waterbeach Community Primary School to lead evidence-informed, effective and inclusive practice for the children here. Working within a leadership team, you will have accountability for the areas of behaviour and wellbeing and will contribute to the school's Pupil Premium strategy and its implementation.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for the right candidate: the opportunity to contribute in a new role as part of the leadership team in a good school which was recently inspected by Ofsted.

Flexible working is welcomed and the role could be full- or part-time depending on the successful candidate.

We can offer you:

  • A great team of dedicated staff and empowered, hardworking children
  • Two paid wellbeing days a year
  • Access to a counsellor in school and an employee assistance programme
  • A school at the heart of its community with great relationships with parents
  • Support with leadership development
  • A dedicated and developing SEN team
  • Access to the cycle to work scheme

The successful candidate will have:

  • A track record of leading with positive impacts for children and staff
  • Experience of converting vision into continuous school improvement
  • The ability to communicate effectively with families and the wider local community
  • Evidence of partnership working and wider impact
  • Integrity, intelligence, warmth and compassion – in all, a great role model for our children, staff and wider school communities

The applicant may have a relevant NPQ qualification (leading behaviour and culture).

You will be a knowledgeable primary teacher who loves learning.

You will understand relevant research into effective provision to support pupil and staff wellbeing. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Therapeutic Thinking approach to managing behaviour as communication and you will be familiar with the EEF strategies for effective implementation. You may have experience with using coaching to develop practice. You will be familiar with the research underlying effective strategies to reduce attainment gaps between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. You will demonstrate high expectations and you will be proactive, reflective and resilient. You will be able to model empathy and respect and to champion effective provision for children when leading staff.

The school is committed to diversity and inclusion and equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
