Peak School is a Nursery to Post 16, special school academy located in the village of Chinley, in the north west corner of Derbyshire. We cater for children and young adults with a wide range of special educational needs, including those with significant learning and communication difficulties.
We are looking to appoint an outstanding leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for pupils with SEND. We are seeking an inspirational Assistant Headteacher who will play a key role in shaping the quality of education and personal development across the school. The successful candidate will:
Drive curriculum improvement, working closely with subject leaders to develop and strengthen our curriculum across all pathways and age phases, ensuring it remains ambitious, engaging and meaningful for our pupils.
Lead assessment across the school, refining approaches so that assessment is purposeful, manageable and clearly aligned with curriculum priorities and pupil progress.
Lead ‘Beyond Peak’ Careers Education, providing strategic oversight of the school’s careers programme from Key Stage 3 onwards, developing meaningful experiences of work-related learning, strengthening employer engagement and supporting our progress towards the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Lead Personal Development across the school, ensuring pupils access a well-sequenced, inclusive programme that supports character development, wellbeing, independence and readiness for adulthood.

The Assistant Headteacher role includes a 40% teaching commitment, giving you the opportunity to lead strategically while remaining closely connected to classroom practice. We believe this balance is vital in ensuring leadership decisions are rooted in a deep understanding of our pupils and the realities of teaching and learning.
