What skills and experience we're looking for

The Assistant Headteacher (Safeguarding and Pastoral) will be a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team and play a major role in the strategic development of the school, as outlined below. This is a non-teaching post.

We are looking for a candidate with previous middle or senior leadership experience that demonstrates a positive and successful impact on the experience and outcomes for young people, alongside the raising of standards in staff performance. They must have strategic and operational safeguarding experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • To model exemplary relationships with staff and pupils, demonstrating to the school community how high expectations can be maintained alongside high quality relationships and communication.
  • Leadership of the safeguarding team as Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Leadership of the Pastoral team including monitoring of Alternative Education, Looked After Children, Young Carers and other key vulnerable groups
  • Management of whole school attendance
  • Identification of key improvement for that area, followed by planning of activities with key success indicators and milestones.
  • Lead aspects of the School Improvement Plan and Self Evaluation relating to the agreed area.
  • Provide effective line management and leadership of identified team leaders.
  • To model outstanding practice in the classroom, including teaching, planning and feedback
  • Attend and participate in all SLT meetings, presenting reports and updates as required

Leadership & Management

  • Share the responsibility for the leadership of the school and contribute to the decision-making processes of school leadership.
  • To take a lead in the maintaining of high standards of behaviour and dress.
  • To have a visible presence in corridors and ensure care for the environment and the fabric of the building, including assisting with lunch-time supervision and gate duty.
  • To actively promote the ethos and policies of the school.
  • To communicate and consult with governors, staff, students, parents/carers and members of the wider school community.
