St Chad's is an 11-16 Catholic and Church of England High School serving the Christian and wider community of Runcorn. The school was built as a Catholic comprehensive in 1976 to cater for the needs of a rapidly increasing population as a result of the area's designation as a 'New Town'. In 2009 the Church of England sought to establish secondary follow on presence in Halton secondary education, and as a result of an agreement between the Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury and Anglican Diocese of Chester the school became a Joint Church school
