What skills and experience we're looking for

Due to a change in structure, and to support exciting developments within the school, we have a vacancy for an Assistant Headteacher (with SENDCo responsibilities). This role will be based within the Senior Leadership Team, working to lead inclusion across the current school site and with a strategic overview of the new building project, specifically the development of two Resource Base classrooms, with support from colleagues within school and the local area.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic member of staff who could take on the role of Assistant Headteacher (with SENDCo responsibilities) to continue well developed inclusive practices within the school and to have the exciting opportunity of working alongside other school based and local leaders to strategically plan for the embedding of that inclusive practice, when the resource base classrooms open. We anticipate that the majority of this role would not be classroom based but more focused on wider provision, planning and management.

This vacancy presents a unique opportunity to join The Grove at an exciting time of growth and progression. The Grove has well established leaders who are able to provide support and mentoring, to aid the success of this role. The school is also in the process of joining the Equa/Mead Trust meaning the opportunity for collaboration, professional development and learning from other colleagues- especially those within the established resource bases across the trust- are ample.

We are interested in hearing from established teachers with a secure knowledge of SEND and a passion for embedding an ethos of inclusion and equity. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who feels they have some leadership experience, which they would like to progress further, and is looking for the next exciting step within their career. Candidates would need to hold the National Award for SENCOs (NASENCO) or be interested in commencing this qualification, supported by the school, within the Autumn Term of the 2024-25 academic year.

In addition, we would like to hear from you if you are:

  • An outstanding classroom teacher with a passion for developing children’s knowledge, inspiring their learning and celebrating their achievements
  • Dedicated to, and have high expectations, of children with a belief that all children can succeed
  • Able to demonstrate how your work will impact on the whole school as part of the senior leadership team
  • Able to demonstrate strong leadership in inclusion, with a proven track record of supporting others to improve their practice and be able to hold people to account
  • Experienced in working with colleagues, children and parents to ensure that all learners make good progress from their starting points, and are advantaged by your leadership
  • Able to lead staff development for inclusion and actively contribute to strategic planning for the school and whole school vision, values, challenges, projects.
  • With support, be excited to strategically establish a new resource base provision within The Grove.

To be effective in this role, you will need to have:

  • An advanced safeguarding qualification (or the willingness to attain one with the school’s support), in order to work within the school’s well-established and supportive Safeguarding Team as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Excellent communication skills, with high levels of interpersonal skills and approachability
  • An innovative, creative and forward thinking approach
  • An ongoing commitment to your professional development and learning
  • Enthusiasm for developing strong engagement with the local community and multi-agency professionals.
