About this role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Learning Lead to join our Explore Pathway. This is a key supporting leadership role working alongside the Learning Lead to develop and embed high-quality practice for students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

The Explore Pathway delivers a semi‑formal curriculum that integrates academic, sensory, physical, emotional, and social development, with each pupil’s Personal Learning Goals (PLGs) central to everyday learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the Learning Lead in delivering and embedding a sequenced SLD curriculum that promotes independence, communication and applied learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to planning, adapting and delivering high‑quality learning experiences that meet individual pupil needs.
  • Assist with the day‑to‑day organisation of the Explore Pathway, helping ensure smooth running across classes.
  • Work alongside teachers and support staff to maintain consistent, high‑quality teaching and learning practice.
  • Take part in department days, pathway meetings and staff briefings, and chair meetings when required.
  • Support accurate assessment processes, including moderation, data input and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Help analyse assessment information to identify trends, contribute to intervention planning and discuss strategies to support individual pupils.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils and help staff implement communication, sensory and behaviour support plans.
  • Uphold high expectations for pupils with SLD, ensuring their Personal Learning Goals remain central to practice.
  • Support effective communication with parents, carers and external professionals to strengthen pupil support.
  • Help maintain safe, engaging, well‑organised learning environments across the pathway.
  • Promote and model the school’s values, safeguarding culture and commitment to pupil wellbeing.
