What the school offers its staff
The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through our own network of teaching schools. Our Executive Director for Maths, Kathryn Greenhalgh, leads Yorkshire and the Humber Maths Hub. This, as well as her work with the DfE, means that OGAT maths departments are helping to inform the development and mould the landscape of mathematics both regionally and nationally.
We have a great training package for teachers new to the Trust from ECTs through to HODs which includes: Teaching for Understanding; Open Classroom events; Maths Matters; TSST; Reasoning at KS3; weekly professional development time and further programmes free through the Outwood Institute of Education. We invest in you so you invest in our students.
Outwood Academy Portlandplaces students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development. We believe that all support staff within our Family of Schools are key posts in terms of securing student success and achievement across a broad range of subjects and experiences.
We are proud that Outwood Academy Portland is rated Outstanding by Ofsted and we are delighted to be based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.
