What the school offers its staff

Oasis Long Cross Assistant Principal – Specialist Resource Base.

Long Cross is special.

  • Special due to a culture of social inclusion that means we rarely lose quality staff. People stay because being part of a team that finds joy in what they do and finds time to laugh is a team that is worth being a part of. For the long-term.
  • Special in unashamedly showing the families, communities and children it supports genuine love. Long Cross is much more than a school building where lessons are taught. It is a place where children and adults alike thrive and strive to better themselves both academically and socially in a dynamic caring environment.
  • And special in its unique 7 class, 50 children Specialist Resource Base (SRB). An inclusive provision within a mainstream 2 to 11 yr Primary phase that truly understand the child centred needs of a very complex and diverse group of learners.

But with this ‘special’ status comes challenge as we grow from 5 classes to 7 and as we continue to attract learners with a wide range of complex needs from the across Bristol region. For us to continue to provide the quality and bespoke education we are so rightly proud of – we need an Assistant Principal with specialist SEND expertise. An individual as driven as we are to provide the very best chances in life for all our pupils – whatever that may look like for each of them. Is that you?

But first – what’s in it for you?

  • You’ll work within a team led by our Deputy Principal Rebecca Rollings – a highly experienced, forward thinking, open change agent. An opportunity to learn from an experienced mentor.
  • You’ll be part of a wider team headed up by our Principal Karen Sheppard who’s visionary leadership of the Academy has helped shape the SRB into the most requested special education provision in the region.
  • You’ll benefit from a significant LA investment in new facilities due to open in September 2025 including a new sensory room, classrooms and group facilities.
  • Access to wide ranging training opportunities and investment in your personal development
  • Access to the most current pedagogical and evidence-based approaches and our own assessment frameworks and curriculum.
  • A highly supportive local team and nationally across Oasis – all with a shared vision to deliver excellence in education. Plus the opportunity to collaborate with other specialist schools in the region.
  • A ‘good’ Ofsted with ambitions to improve further – together.
  • An opportunity to work in a forward-thinking and forward-doing school, with inspirational children who are sparky, well-behaved, and eager to learn. They make us proud every day.

And beyond this you will be able to access a comprehensive benefits package designed around your wellbeing whilst enjoying the ethos and values of an organisation that was set up to support the most disadvantaged communities. An organisation with a clear purpose to improve lives through inclusion, opportunity and community transformation.
