Assistant Principal job summary

About the role: A rare and exciting leadership opportunity within our very successful multi academy trust has arisen. We are seeking to appoint a highly effective leader to join us as an Assistant Principal/Deputy Head of College at Hundred of Hoo Academy (secondary phase) from September 2021. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in accelerating the development of the academy into an outstanding provider of education. This is a great first senior leadership opportunity and is ideal for those of you seeking to continue your career progression.

The appointed candidate will demonstrate real ambition to improve the life chances of the students at Hundred of Hoo Academy, sharing our Academy ethos that there is no ceiling to what our young people can achieve. In return, you will receive encouragement, support and guidance not only to develop the academy, but also your own career within the Trust. The Hundred of Hoo Academy is now oversubscribed and has an increasing role, so the future scope of this role is significant. The successful candidate will report directly to one of the Vice Principal’s and as the Academy implements its human scale approach to education, they will have a key role in driving the future success of their assigned college.

So what makes us different at The Hundred of Hoo Academy? It is how we translate our culture, vision and values into every action every day, where you can see staff and pupils role modelling high expectations. We want our teachers to concentrate on what they do best – teach. To achieve this we have clear, consistent behaviour systems and every teacher has their own classroom. Our teachers plan the curriculum together allowing them to share expertise as well as the workload. We also provide an array of professional development programmes for our staff including NQTs, middle and senior leader programmes.

Diversity at our core: As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

Recruitment and hiring during COVID-19: Despite the challenges we face, recruitment and hiring will continue for all Leigh Academies Trust vacancies with as little disruption as possible over the coming weeks and months. This is for all senior, teaching and support staff appointments. Applications will still be reviewed and interviews conducted in a timely manner, although interview activities will vary. If you have any queries or concerns, please get in touch with the LAT Talent Team - talent@latrust.org.uk.
Based on the quality and quantity of applications received, Leigh Academies Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy sooner than the specified closing date. Applicants will be notified of this where possible. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.

Working with our academy: In September 2011, The Hundred of Hoo converted to Academy status and just one year later, Ofsted judged the academy as “good with outstanding features”, recognising the relentless focus and ambition that we have. In September 2015 the academy welcomed its first Reception class thereby extending its age range to 4-year-old children. This exciting provision demonstrates the Academy’s sense of ambition to serve the community where pupils’ academic journey represents a cradle to university principle.

We are delighted to announce that following a recent Ofsted inspection in July 2018 the academy has been judged 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features in terms of our Early Years provision and effectiveness of Leadership and Management.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2020, our Trust will comprise 28 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 15 primaries and 2 special) educating over 16,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff. We also have one further secondary academy in development phase, due to open in September 2021. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school. Click here to view our future plans in our Vision 2025 document.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.
