The Candidate
We are looking to appoint a highly effective and motivated Assistant SENCO, who will work in partnership with the SENCO who is a full time teacher and a non-teaching Assistant SENCO. This non teaching role is designed to add capacity, to support and effectively contribute to the SEND provision across the academy. Our non-teaching Assistant SENCO supports the SENCO in coordinating and delivering high-quality support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. While not involved in direct classroom teaching, they play a crucial administrative, organisational, and liaison role within the SEND provision.
The successful candidate will work with all stakeholders to ensure that children with additional needs, vulnerabilities, or barriers to learning receive the support they need to learn, progress successfully and maximise their potential. You will be well organised and willing to go the ‘extra mile’. You will be able to build positive, supportive relationships with staff and students to ensure that teachers are well informed and able to build upon the specific interventions led by the SEND team to maximise learning within the classroom thus ensuring that the separation effect does not impact negatively upon student opportunities and progress. You will champion students who need additional support and play a vital role as a direct contact to allocated parents.
You will have experience and a working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and experience of working with students academically and or pastorally.
The ideal candidate will possess the drive and passion to develop themselves professionally within the SEND area and undertake CPD opportunities to cultivate their SEND knowledge and practice.
The academy benefits from a personalised learning centre and we are developing further sectors within our “Rise and Thrive” offer to students with SEND. This includes The Bridge and The Oasis. The successful applicant will play an active role in supporting provision to ensure that our students can be successful. The job description is diverse and designed to add capacity to our SEND team in an evolving landscape. It requires the candidate to be flexible, adaptable and a team player. No two days are the same and the successful candidate will be creative, resilient and driven.
