What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an Assistant SENCo to join our new school. You should have a passion for learning, be highly motivated, work well as part of a team and be committed to engaging with pupils in a positive, calm and caring way. We can offer you the opportunity to make life-changing differences to children, and work with a supportive, caring, dedicated staff and governing body. This post is for 32.5 hours a week.
We are the commissioned Alternative Provision in East Sussex for pupils who have been permanently excluded from school. Our school is based across three sites: one Primary(Eastbourne) and two Secondary (Newhaven & Hastings). As Assistant SENCo you will be based at our Hastings site and support the work of the SENCo across the school. We are in an exciting period of development as we seek to shape our school in order to have an inspirational offer in place for the children in our care.
You will be joining us at the beginning of East Sussex Academy Hastings: you will have the opportunity to work with forward-thinking staff and join a highly experienced Trust. We are looking for enthusiastic, kind, caring, resilient and dedicated people to join our team.We will offer induction training for new staff and provide ongoing CPD for our team in order to ensure we are at the forefront of educational thinking, with the children at the heart of all we do. We are committed to safeguarding; successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

Interview date: The week of 8th June 2026
Start date:1st September 2026
What the school offers its staff
From 1 September 2025, we will be delivering Alternative Provision across East Sussex - supporting children who have been excluded from school or who may be at risk of exclusion. This follows a decision by the Department for Education last year, to transfer the provision (currently named College Central, part of Sabden Multi Academy Trust) to London South East Academies Trust.
Our aim is to ensure continuity and care for pupils during this transition, as we begin an exciting journey of improvement. We are committed to delivering high quality education for pupils, many of whom have had challenging experiences in mainstream settings and need support and encouragement to access learning. Ahead of the school's transfer into LSEAT (at which point it will officially become East Sussex Academy) we are already implementing some bespoke provision and services to support young people and schools across the county. This includes a Satellite AP, a Government-funded AP Taskforce and an Outreach Service.
Thank you for your interest in East Sussex Academy. We look forward to working with you in the coming months as we strengthen and improve Alternative Provision across the region.
