REQUIRED 1st SEPTEMBER 2025

We are seeking a keen, dynamic, and committed individual to join our leadership team as an Associate Assistant Headteacher – Key Stage 4. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional, ideally with the ability to teach PE, to make a real impact on the lives of our students during a crucial stage of their education. You will lead on all aspects of pastoral care across Key Stage 4, including the line management of a year group, overseeing student wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and safeguarding. Working closely with Heads of Year and external agencies, you will implement effective strategies to support student development and ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The role also encompasses academic intervention and post-16 transition support. You will collaborate with curriculum leaders and teaching staff to monitor progress, identify students at risk of underachievement, and drive targeted strategies that boost engagement and outcomes. A key element of the post involves preparing students for life beyond school, working alongside our careers officer and external partners to deliver a high-quality, structured programme of guidance and events. As part of the wider pastoral leadership team, you will also contribute to whole-school development, lead staff training on key pastoral issues, and report on outcomes to senior leaders and governors. This is an ideal opportunity for a passionate educator ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.

WE ARE SEEKING SOMEONE WHO:

  • Has a sound and developed knowledge of your subject and of its examination specifications.
  • Has the ability to teach students throughout the age and ability range.
  • Can create and maintain a disciplined and stimulating environment in which all students are well motivated and learn.
  • Monitors students’ progress and create opportunities for all students to reach their full potential.
  • Establishes good working relationships with students and colleagues and with the wider school community.
  • Attends and contributes to departmental meetings and contribute to departmental policies and developments.
  • Can manage a year group and work closely with other Heads of Year to implement behaviour policies and support strategies.
  • Will work with curriculum leaders and classroom teachers to monitor academic progress.
  • Contributes to whole-school development through pastoral SLT meetings.

YOUR MAIN DUTIES WOULD BE:

  • To teach your subject at all levels and to all abilities, seeking to ensure that all pupils make very good progress, enjoy their learning, and become well educated.
  • To contribute more widely to the well-being of our pupils, through being a form tutor, undertaking duties, and being a role model for them for their learning and their conduct.
  • The AAHT for Key Stage 4 will lead the pastoral care, behaviour, and wellbeing of students in Year 11 and transition to further education or employment. The role focuses on ensuring high standards of student support, attendance, personal development, and academic engagement to maximize outcomes at GCSE level.

IN RETURN, WE OFFER:

  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Access to National College training, subject-specific CPD, leadership pathways, and mentoring programs.
  • Career Progression: Clear pathways for growth, from early careers to leadership roles. We use a ‘touchbase’ informal approach to focus on professional development as well as an annual career conversation with your manager!
  • Wellbeing & Support: Leadership training focused on wellbeing, mental health resources, and staff networks.

  • Generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days for all year-round support staff. This increases to 28 days after 5 years!
  • A paid premium to a Healthcare Cash Plan to claim back contributions towards dental, optical and other medical costs via UK Healthcare.
  • 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Amazing benefits and discounts via UK Healthcare.
  • Fantastic facilities.
  • A lunch allowance for those colleagues volunteering to assist in lunchtime duties or activities.
