Associate Assistant Principal – Raising Attainment job summary

Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy (OSCA) is located in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell, and in very close proximity to the centre of Birmingham. It is a slightly larger than average, 11–16 co-educational academy with approximately 1,200 students. It has grown over the last few years and is now full and oversubscribed in every year group for the seventh consecutive year.

We are looking for a current Head of Maths or successful mathematician who wants to take their first step into senior leadership. This is a great opportunity to develop into a senior leadership role as the Associate Assistant Principal will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

The academy has been recognised with a myriad of awards over recent years. These include the Investors In People Gold Award, The Quality In Careers Standard Gold Award, The Basic Skills Quality Mark, and the Artsmark Gold Award. This is a fantastic time to join the vibrant and caring learning community at OSCA. Its strong code of values guides its work and creates a secure and safe environment where all students can thrive and succeed. Staff are committed to ensuring every student reaches their full potential by having the highest aspirations and a commitment to both academic and personal excellence. Students speak positively about the “strong sense of community” at the academy and “the support they receive from the teachers”, with a Year 8 student describing life at OSCA as being part of “one big family.”

The ideal post-holder will be an inspirational leader, innovator, creative thinker and competent self-starter who shares our belief in the power of education to transform the future like opportunities of young people. Applications are invited from exceptional leaders who share our deep commitment to securing the very best educational experience for all our students across all subjects.

Our new colleague will also benefit from being part of Ormiston Academies Trust, a MAT of 43 primary and secondary academies. The Trust’s vision is for all young people to have access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to achieve their full potential. OAT support all staff so that they can enhance and develop their professional skills whatever their role within the trust.

Ormiston Academies Trust is an ethical sponsor, committed to improving the life chances of young people. We share their vision for all young people to have the highest academic, social and practical skills to allow them to lead a fulfilling life.

For the full details of this role, please refer to the attached job description. However, in summary, the new post holder would be expected to:

  • Liaise with senior colleagues at other Ormiston Academies to support strategic development, share good practice and plan collaborative activities.
  • Ensure that the federation of Ormiston Academies is always presented positively within and beyond the Academy.

If you share our vision and ambition to make a huge difference to the lives of our young people, their families and our community, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

If you have any questions regarding the role or would like to arrange an informal tour of the academy, please contact Jayne Orme via email to ormej@ormistonsandwell.org.uk
