Join our team at Stamford Welland Academy, part of Meridian Trust, where every child is known, valued, and supported to achieve their full potential. We are seeking a committed and proactive professional to lead on attendance, safeguarding, and welfare across our school community.

About the Role

As Attendance and DSL & Welfare Lead, you will play a pivotal role in promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students. This is a senior position within our pastoral team, reporting to the Vice Principal (Behaviour, Welfare & Safeguarding). You will:

  • Lead on safeguarding and child protection as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.
  • Champion student welfare, working closely with families, external agencies, and Student support Advisors (SSAs) to provide early help and targeted support.
  • Drive attendance improvement, monitoring patterns, implementing interventions, and supporting students and families to overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver practical support, advice and guidance to vulnerable children and their families to support students’ academic, and pastoral needs.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records and produce reports for SLT and governors.

  • Work with the Vice Principal to advise and provide CPD to staff within the academy and across the trust on safeguarding matters

  • Monitor and analyse attendance data, identify trends, and implement strategies to reduce persistent absence.
  • Working with House teams to meet with students and parents/carers to identify and assess the needs of the student/family and complete EHAs where necessary.

  • Support SSAs to coordinate multi-agency meetings and contribute to child protection plans.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory guidance and school policies on safeguarding, welfare, and attendance.
About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has extensive safeguarding knowledge and experience, ideally as a DSL or deputy DSL.
  • Understands attendance legislation and strategies for improvement.
  • Is confident in working with vulnerable children and families, and liaising with external agencies.
  • Has excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Holds (or is willing to undertake) relevant safeguarding and first aid training.
