Attendance Improvement Manager job summary

Campion School is seeking an Attendance Improvement Manager. You will be responsible for promoting excellent levels of attendance through the operational leadership of the school attendance team, alongside supporting the Deputy Principal (Pastoral).

You will oversee and develop robust systems for monitoring attendance, enabling early identification of concerns and timely intervention. You will be responsible for analysing data, reporting trends, and escalating issues where necessary to minimise lost learning and ensure every child has access to their full educational entitlement.

As a visible and proactive champion for good attendance, you will be tenacious and solution-focused, relentlessly committed to ensuring that all pupils benefit from consistent access to education. You must be a skilled communicator to do this role well: everyday you will engage children, their families, and colleagues. You will need to be confident, empathetic, and calm - particularly when conversations are challenging.

You will also demonstrate a deep understanding of the barriers that can affect school attendance. While showing compassion for the difficulties that families may face, you will uphold the school’s high expectations and work collaboratively to remove obstacles to regular attendance.

In this role you will:

  • work with the Deputy Principal (Pastoral), the wider Attendance team, and year teams to champion a positive culture of attendance with staff, students, and families.
  • oversee the daily absence routine, ensuring meticulous record keeping and prompt recording and follow up of absences in line with school policy, including students in Alternative Provision.
  • act swiftly to intervene when attendance is not improving, for example by conducting home visits.
  • oversee and support communication with parents and carers, including calls, emails, meetings, and formal correspondence regarding student absences and attendance concerns.
  • analyse trends and priorities in attendance data to inform strategic planning and reporting to senior leaders.
  • identify and implement targeted strategies to support priority students to attend school every day.
  • work with parents and carers to implement re-integration plans for persistently absent students.
  • liaise with safeguarding, pastoral, and SEND teams, and the Local Authority to ensure a joined-up approach to supporting students with poor attendance, particularly those who are vulnerable or at risk.
  • advise school colleagues on current laws, policies and standards regarding attendance and safeguarding.
  • demonstrate the importance of inclusion, equality and diversity when working with the school community.

What we offer: More pay, more time, and more support.

  • We pay an average of 5% above national scales, the best pay in the sector.
  • Three extra INSET days a year for planning.
  • Health Cash Plan - We offer a health cash plan giving you money towards essential medical treatment.
  • Guaranteed Personal day - 1 paid personal day each year, to use as you want.
  • Great training for your career - Excellent ongoing CPD and career development opportunities across the academy and United Learning.
  • Wellbeing Support - Access to a comprehensive wellbeing programme, providing support with issues from legal and financial to family and housing; access to free counselling; and other wellbeing support.
