Attendance Welfare Co-ordinator job summary
The Attendance Welfare Coordinators will manage and improve student attendance and oversee the school’s admissions process in line with statutory regulations, responsible for accurate data management and effective communication with parents/carers and external agencies ensuring a smooth transition for all students joining the school and understanding and overcoming barriers to good student attendance.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend safeguarding and attendance meetings both internally and externally.
- Engage with staff, students, and parents to address and resolve attendance issues.
- Monitor and support pupil attendance, collaborating with colleagues to remove learning barriers.
- Conduct home visits and meetings to establish reasons for non-attendance and facilitate return strategies.
- Comply with local authority procedures for pupils missing education, ensuring effective case management.
- Initiate legal actions with Education Welfare Services (EWS) as required.
- Promote positive attendance through initiatives, campaigns, and rewards systems.
- Administer admissions procedures ensuring compliance with the School Admissions Policy.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of new admissions, including safeguarding checks.
- Administration of reduced timetables.
- Prepare and issue offer letters, waiting list updates, rejection letters, and appeals paperwork.
- Coordinate with the Local Authority on allocations, waiting lists, and appeals.
- Track and monitor admissions at all stages, highlighting any concerns or anomalies.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection legislation.
- Be the main point of contact for admissions enquiries, providing clear, accurate and supportive advice to parents and carers.
- Coordinate with feeder schools, external agencies, and internal staff for smooth transitions.
- Support the induction process with new admissions.
Permanent, 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
About our Academy
At Malcolm Arnold, we ensure that all teachers can draw on the sources of scholarly authority and reservoir of thought and practice that have been developed within their specialist subject communities though our Trust- wide subject communities. This involves engagement for teachers with their wider subject education community through subject associations, subject education journals, subject-specific CPD on curriculum development and teaching. It also involves refreshing and constant renewal of subject knowledge, through reading and discussing scholarship, engaging in contemporary debates, and developing our own practice as teachers.
Subject communities are central to Malcolm Arnold’s vision for curriculum and teacher development, whereby each subject community is made up of subject specialist teachers deeply engaged with curricular questions, renewing and holding ownership of the Trust-wide curriculum and sustaining their own subject expertise. Through Trust-wide subject community meetings and in-school department meetings, all subject teachers have responsibility and involvement with the Trust-wide curriculum development. We work collaboratively in our curriculum decision-making, to draw upon collective expertise and minimise unnecessary workload.

Who we are looking for
- A good standard of education, including GCSEs in Maths and English.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, capable of producing and editing documents using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Good people skills and the ability to command the respect of students and to collaborate effectively with staff.
- Experience working with young people and their families within an academic setting.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in helping students overcome significant barriers to learning.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to relate well to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Highly organised, efficient, and able to work to tight deadlines, often under pressure.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- A full, clean driving licence

Malcolm Arnold Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Northampton, Northamptonshire, for students aged 11-18.
The school takes its name from the legendary composer Sir Malcolm Arnold. Born in Northampton in 1921, he was one of the leading figures in 20th-century classical music and helped to establish the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
