*Job description

Based in the school’s internal alternative provision centre, the main purpose of this post is to complement the professional work of teaching staff by supporting and delivering the alternative curriculum provision for targeted students. This role involves supporting disaffected and vulnerable students to maximise their potential whilst at school. The successful applicant will become part of the internal alternative provision team and will support the planning, preparation and delivery of a specialised curriculum for individuals and /or groups of key students. The post holder will also support with the monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting on achievement, progress and development for students who attend the internal alternative provision centre. The post holder will report to the Director for Internal Alternative Provision.

Duties of role will include being able:
• To support the development of a vibrant and interesting learning environment within the internal alterative provision centre which supports students’ academic and emotional development.
• To establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
• To support the assessment, development and delivery of resources to support the varying personal and social needs of the students who may access the internal alternative provision centre.
• To develop the provision and use of various learning materials in a range of media, so as to enhance learning of targeted students.
• To liaise with curriculum leaders/ staff to ensure students who are accessing the internal alternative provision centre can continue with their learning and access high quality teaching.
• To organise and conduct induction programmes for students into the internal alternative provision centre, so to encourage learning, good behaviour and success.
• To support the development of individual programmes of support for students accessing the internal alternative provision centre, this will include regular liaison with parents/ carers and liaison with relevant external agencies.
• To support the tracking and monitoring of progress and academic achievement during the students’ time in the internal alternative provision centre.
• To support students’ reintegration back into mainstream lessons, at the appropriate time, and maintain contact and support with individual students.
• To support the delivery of alternative curriculum pathways for the targeted students, including any complementary offsite alternative provision.
• To develop knowledge of, and competence in learning activities that support the holistic development of young people who access the support of the internal alternative provision centre.
• To have a positive and significant impact on targeted students.
• To promote self-esteem and independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance.
• To support the Director for Internal Alternative Provision in the successful operation of the internal alternative provision so as to ensure a quality facility for targeted students.
• To promote the work of the internal alternative provision centre across the school, so all staff have an understanding of the ethos and work of the area.
• To provide excellent support, supervision and care for all users of the internal alternative provision centre.
• Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required on student achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring availability of appropriate evidence.
• To liaise closely with the school’s Pastoral and Inclusion Teams regarding all students who may be accessing the provision, including supporting and contributing to multi –agency working for specific students.
• To arrange parental interviews/reviews as appropriate; to provide regular feedback to parents/carers on targeted students.
• To inform colleagues of which students are in the internal alternative provision centre, at which times and for how long.
• To supervise the internal alternative provision centre at lesson change, break and lunchtimes.
• To participate in the school’s quality assurance process.
• To set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and maintain a good standard of discipline through well focused teaching, fostering positive relationships and implementing the school’s Behaviour Policy.
• To provide in class support to targeted students, as and when needed.
• To participate in the school’s On Call rota.
• All staff have a responsibility to ensure that the College’s Safeguarding Policy is adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with the policy.
• All staff have a responsibility to ensure that the College’s Health and Safety Policy is adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with the policy.
• Any other appropriate duties and responsibilities relevant to the post as directed by the Chief Executive Officer, Principal, Vice Principals, or Assistant Principals.
