What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic colleague to join our team of committed and dedicated professionals who will do whatever it takes to help our young people achieve great things - beyond expectations. As a Behaviour Intervention Assistant you will be working in our on-site intervention provision with students who need additional support to engage with their learning and who need support and guidance in learning how and when to make good decisions about their responses and learning behaviour. The Berwick Centre is a place where students spend short amounts of time when they most need individual support and guidance. It acts as an internal facility whereby students are out of general circulation and receive intervention before they go back into the main school and to their usual lessons. We are looking for an individual with the ability to build strong, supportive and effective relationships with pupils, staff and parents. Someone who can create a variety of strategies to support and mentor pupils to re-engage them with their learning. We believe all adults are role models and this role will be no different. Working with students from across the full age and ability range, this high profile, extremely rewarding role requires a calm, professional approach with high levels of emotional intelligence, energy and drive. You will forge profitable and trusting relationships with students that inspire confidence and work hard to understand their individuality and help resolve barriers to their achievement - making a real difference to our students and our community. No two days will ever be the same - although they will always be rewarding and exciting. Your previous experience in an educational setting is less important to us than your experience of working with young people and your ability to understand their perceptions and individuality.

What the school offers its staff

Our vision is simple – to ensure that all of our students achieve beyond our expectations and thrive as confident learners with the highest aspirations, ready for a bright and successful future and ready for the world in which they will work and live. We are relentless in our pursuit of the very best for all our students. We understand challenges but do not accept them as limitations. Welling School is an all ability, co-educational 11-18 school, located in the London borough of Bexley. As well as serving our local community we welcome students from a diverse range of backgrounds and areas. Each of them bringing their own part to make up the Welling School Community. We are proud to be part of The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) which is one of the largest Multi Academy Trusts in South East England with over 40 Primary and Secondary Academies in the TKAT family.

Commitment to safeguarding

TKAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Offers of employment will be subject to the full Safer Recruitment process, including an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

Our Commitment - Equal, Inclusive, Diverse

TKAT is committed to inclusion, diversity and equality of opportunity by encouraging and welcoming differences, listening to individual experiences, aspirations and accomplishments and learning how to grow better together. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of any protected characteristic; this includes applicants wishing to work flexibly.

Education can transform people’s lives and at Welling School I am absolutely determined that the students who attend our school will be given the very best opportunities to excel. Our new vision is to educate outward-looking learners who will thrive in their own lives and contribute to making the world a better place.

This means that we firmly believe that the purpose of education is twofold. We want all our learners to achieve academic success and have access to a varied co-curricular syllabus in order for them to complete their educational journey. Students can only achieve this if they feel happy and are provided with a caring environment in which the talents of different individuals are respected and encouraged to flourish. Our educational philosophy is focused around the values we want all our students to acquire before taking their place in the adult world. This is why we strive for:

Students who are ambitious
Students who are kind
Students who are active

In summary, an education is so much more than just good examination results. We aim to support and inspire all our learners, irrespective of ability, to be the best they can be in every single way. Learners at Welling School also benefit from outstanding facilities. In 2005 the school was rebuilt and the school continues to make improvements. This summer the practical food rooms were renovated. Our other excellent facilities include: specialist classrooms; sports hall; all-weather sports pitch; dance studio, drama studios, Apple Mac computer rooms, recording studio, art gallery, library and a designated 6th Form Centre.
