What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for an experienced Behaviour Mentor and Sports Coach to support our students at Harris Science Academy East London.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths – Grade C or above
  • UKCC Level 2 qualification (or higher) in any sport or appropriate equivalent qualification
  • Experience of delivering sport coaching sessions to young people aged between 11 and 16 in a school environment
  • Knowledge of behaviour for learning policies
  • Knowledge of the range of barriers to learning that students face
  • Knowledge of the PE National Curriculum and ability to deliver the curriculum through sport
  • The ability to encourage and inspire young people through sport

Further details about the role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the consistent implementation of the Behaviour for Learning policy
  • Managing the calm and purposeful entrance and exit of students into/out of the academy and around the academy between lessons
  • Working collaboratively to ensure students are monitored and supervised before school, during break and throughout lunch
  • Ensuring that follow up action is taken for students failing to meet academy standards, particularly outside lessons, and on any issues to do with behaviour
  • Mentoring students on PSPs, supporting successful achievement of targets
  • Reducing potential permanent exclusion by offering an alternative curriculum which includes rigorous behaviour for learning intervention
  • Contributing to the supervision of students internally excluded
  • Teaching the PE curriculum across a range of indoor and outdoor sports
  • Contributing to the smooth running of the PE department through appropriate lesson planning and curriculum preparation
  • Ensuring all equipment associated with the PE session is correctly set up, maintained, stored, and returned
  • Supporting the extra-curricular programme of the PE department
