Our behaviour mentors work as a team of 10 pastoral leads within our school ‘BART’ (Behaviour and Relationship Team). This team are the glue within our days who work tirelessly to support staff and colleagues in making the most of every learning opportunity, be that academic or personal growth.

You must be passionate about working with young people with SEN and have high levels of energy and enthusiasm to inspire and motivate young people to learn and thrive. You must possess excellent communication and personal skills, and be able to build supportive and trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Millgate School for an individual to join our behaviour and relationship team as a behaviour mentor. Your role will involve leading pastoral interventions in order to support our children’s social, emotional and mental health needs, emotional literacy and social interaction. You will also be led by our phase leads to ensure behaviour is well supported within the classroom and vital links between home and the school are maintained. As one of our mentors, you will develop your own timetable to work flexibly in supporting the well-being of our young people and encourage them to be reflective and responsible.


The successful candidate will:

  • NVQ Level 3 Equivalent with relevant Child and / or Education focus
  • A minimum of 2 years working experience as a level 3 Teaching Assistant in an educational setting.
  • Experience of supporting children with identified additional needs, including emotional, social and behavioral difficulties.
  • Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with and command the confidence of teaching and non-teaching staff
  • Empathy with children and young people, showing sensitivity to the needs of children/ families from all backgrounds.
