What skills and experience we're looking for

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Behaviour and Pastoral Officer to join our team at The Portsmouth Academy.As a key member of our Patrol Team, you will promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour across the school, while maintaining a strong and visible presence around the site. Your work will make a real difference in supporting students to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.The role focuses on:

  • Reducing levels of absence from lessons and poor behaviour amongst key groups (including disadvantaged, SEND and vulnerable students)
  • Working closely with identified students and their families to improve levels of engagement and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive
  • Embodying and upholding the school’s core values in everything you do

  • Previous experience of working with young people in a school or similar setting
  • The ability to enforce standards around attendance to lessons, behaviour and culture so that each student can be their best self
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and external professionals
  • An understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people
