Biology Teacher job summary

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher of Biology to join our well-established department to motivate and inspire pupils to achieve their best. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary.

The Position

We are looking for someone who would enjoy working with engaging and curious students at Key Stages 3,4 and 5. The department is very well resourced with a range of bespoke equipment across its suite of labs, and it is well supported with full-time technicians. At Key Stage 3, students work across the different sciences, learning the essential knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science to be prepared for life in the modern world. Some of the highlights of the academic calendar are the annual Science Fair and the CSI crime investigation day.

As students progress to GCSE Biology, they are taught in distinct groups by subject specialists and study for the triple science award. The Biology department provides a rich and engaging curriculum which aims to foster a love of the subject and this is evident in the high numbers that opt to continue their interest in the subject at Biology at A level and beyond. This is complemented by a range of societies and clubs led by staff and pupils alike.

Our School

The school itself is an oversubscribed high achieving, but caring Grammar School in North London and really offers teachers the chance to develop their craft as subject teachers. There is great value placed on the experience of learning and CPD opportunities are driven by department needs to ensure that it is focused and purposeful at all times. Visitors to the school uniformly comment on the warm atmosphere and this is further encouraged by the high levels of participation in extracurricular activities that encourage students to foster and nurture their skills and interests beyond the confines of the curriculum. The students are impressive, well-mannered and caring.

We are proud of our inclusive school community and there is a real passion for teaching and learning in a supported and welcoming atmosphere that inspires risk-taking and creativity. As a school, we are committed to developing the whole person and it is a place where you can really engage students in their learning and develop as a teacher. The school also provides a range of well-being activities and facilities including good transport links, free parking, a cycle to work scheme, use of the fitness suite and even massages by a qualified masseuse. The school also runs a number of national and international trips, and we even have our own residential centre in a beautiful part of North Wales which staff also use. We value our staff and the importance of maintaining a healthy work life balance.

The Candidate

Both ECTs and experienced teachers are warmly invited to apply as there is both sufficient support and the opportunity to develop and contribute to the curriculum. It is a fantastic opportunity to work with students who are genuinely passionate about their work and relish the process of problem solving. We would also consider an unqualified candidate with a relevant degree, who may be considering a teaching career in the future as support and training is offered.

If you are a passionate and enthusiastic Biology Teacher who is committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering a love of learning, then we would love to hear from you.

Please apply now or go to our website for more information www.latymer.co.uk If you would like to visit the school or discuss your application prior to submitting, then please do not hesitate to contact the school to make suitable arrangements.

Closing date for applications: 10am on Monday 19th February
