Job description

Subject Leaders are key to the life of the College and their role carries significant leadership and management responsibilities. It is essential that they give active support to the vision and ethos of St Ignatius College. They have a clear vision for their subject area and their areas of responsibility include curriculum planning, teaching and learning, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, behaviour for learning, effective use of resources, creating a stimulating learning environment, overseeing Performance Management, addressing underachievement and assessment and reporting in their subject area. Most importantly, Subject Leaders motivate others, lead by example and strike the appropriate balance of support and challenge.

Essential educational requirements

• Be an outstanding teacher
• Have a vision for what outstanding learning, teaching and assessment should look like in the teaching of Business and Economics
• Well qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated
• Have the ability to teach all key stages including GCSE and A Level

Essential qualifications

QTS
• Holds a DfE recognised teaching qualification
• Good honours degree
• Evidence of updating professional skills, including management development
• Evidence of expertise and success in raising student achievement and securing school improvement
• Successful experience of teaching students across a broad range of the attainment spectrum and across all key stages
• Ability to teach at both KS4 and KS5.

Essential skills and experience

• Demonstrates a sound understanding of the qualities of good teaching and effective learning and how these can be applied to raise student attainment
• Demonstrates an understanding of the effective planning and delivery of a balanced curriculum
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of school development planning, including the development of effective monitoring and evaluation strategies
• Has a clear vision and strong commitment to inclusion and how this can be achieved for students
• Has the ability and strong commitment to working in partnership with staff and parents
• Can set, maintain and actively promote high standards of student behaviour
