Caretaker / Site Assistant job summary

About the Role

As a Caretaker / Site Assistant, you will play a crucial role alongside the Site Manager in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, security and excellent maintenance of our school premises. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the upkeep and cleanliness of classrooms and allocated areas
  • Conducting regular security checks, risk assessments, and fire safety monitoring
  • Coordinating and overseeing repairs and maintenance using our Parago software system
  • Supervising contractors to ensure high standards and budget adherence
  • Maintaining health and safety standards, including statutory inspections and equipment checks
  • Being a key holder and responding to call-outs outside normal working hours when required
  • Supporting school events and contributing positively to the school community atmosphere

Your work will directly impact the wellbeing and safety of pupils, staff, and visitors, helping create an environment where learning and growth thrive.

About You

We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to excellence and community spirit. You will:

  • Have experience in building maintenance, security, and health & safety, ideally within a school or similar setting
  • Be a practical problem solver with DIY skills and the ability to manage contractors and maintenance schedules
  • Understand health and safety regulations, including COSHH, and be committed to maintaining a secure environment
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and the wider school community with warmth and professionalism
  • Be organised, reliable, and flexible, ready to respond to the varied demands of the role
  • Demonstrate a willingness to develop professionally through bespoke Trust training and ongoing development opportunities
  • Hold or be willing to work towards relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 in Caretaking or Cleaning and Health & Safety certification
