The Headteacher and Governing Body are seeking to recruit an experienced, capable and organised caretaker to join our school as soon as possible.

The post is permanent, 37 hours a week on a split daily shift, over 52 weeks a year.

The daily hours are:

Monday to Thursday

  • 7am until 12pm (4hrs)
  • (Lunch unpaid 12pm – 1.30pm)
  • 1.30pm – 4pm (2.5hrs)

Friday

  • 7am until 12pm (4hrs)
  • (Lunch unpaid 12pm – 1.30pm)
  • 1.30pm – 3.30pm (2hrs)

The hours above are our preferred option, but for the right candidate and experience, we could negotiate shift patterns.

Holiday entitlement is 22 days with concessionary Christmas days determined by BOSCO.

We are a large, welcoming and inclusive, Primary School located on the beautiful South Coast, with 444 children currently on roll. Our values are an inclusive “Catholic, Coastal and Diverse” approach to all.

We have a beautiful site, with a playground for each area and a lovely field. The grounds are maintained in partnership with BOSCO and the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton.

There is a Nursery on site which is privately run and school manage this through a Letting Agreement.

The role will include being the main key holder and opening up the school every morning, ensuring that the grounds are free from litter, clean and tidy.

We are looking for someone who

  • Is hard working, flexible and proactive in keeping our site safe and attractive
  • Understands Health & Safety and COSHH Regulations and how it applies to schools and maintenance of the school site (training will be provided if required)
  • Is able to use their own initiative and manage their own varied workload
  • Has good DIY skills
  • Has basic ICT skills

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be proactive in maintaining our site in a good and safe condition for all users
  • Be able to use their initiative and manage their own workload in priority order
  • Have high aspirations for themselves and our school environments
  • Have an understanding of Health & Safety and how it applies to Schools and maintenance of premises
  • Have experience and skills in a range of maintenance tasks
  • Understand COSHH Regulations and be able to undertake COSHH Assessments (training will be provided if required)
  • Be able to work at height on occasion (working at height training provided if not held)
  • Have competent basic ICT skills with e-mails, word documents etc
  • Inspect and monitor the cleaning standards of our cleaning contractors and work of our grounds contractors and raise any shortfalls against contract specification with the appropriate contacts
  • Monitor the work of contractors on site, ensuring compliance with our site rules and H&S legislation.
  • Work with the Headteacher to plan the maintenance of the site.
